This is gonna sound like a “duh” statement, but… social media is the next great frontier for getting your business out there. For a lot of small business owners, though, it seems like a daunting task to figure the whole social media marketing thing out. It’s even hard to say! I’ll give you a few quick tips in this week’s Manic Marketing Monday.
There is only a small minority of business owners who are fluent in the language of social media – while most small business owners are still struggling to find their way to better understanding “how” and maybe even “why” they need to use it as part of their overall marketing strategy. A lot of owners struggle to invest time into going deeper with social media, they get frustrated and lose heart… and interest. I’ve got a couple quick tips to help you at least get your social media marketing off the ground.
The first hurdle to clear is picking an avenue, there are lots of them these days. My opinion is to keep things simple & easy to begin with, so pick Facebook. Most people are already on Facebook and have a general idea of how it works. To start with, you’ll need to set up a page – you can do that by going here. I would stay away from using your personal page as your business page. Creating a business page will allow people to “like” it and not have to see all of your selfies that you take.
Invite
After you set up your Facebook page, invite your friends to “like”. By doing so, they will want to support you – but that “like” will show up on their timeline and will help get the word out. You can grow your “fan base” by simply having your friends “like” your page and then their friends “liking” your page… and so on, and so on, and so on.
Promote
Now that you’ve got your page and a following of some sort, you’ll need to promote your page by adding content of interest about your business. Here are a couple of simple ways of doing that:
- giveaways/coupons
- fundraisers/partnerships with non-profits
- sharing free information that is meant to help/inform your clients – – just like this blog!
I hope these simple quick tips help you overcome the great mountain of confusion of social media marketing, and at least get you started on the right track.
