In the world of start-up business, the logo creation is most times at the center of attention… should it be? I’ll give you my free opinion here, in this week’s edition of Manic Marketing Monday.

At the heart of every designer – is a simple design, something that will probably grow into something much bigger. But still, at the simplest level, there is an idea. When it comes to your business/organization, you too have a simple idea that will grow into (hopefully) something much bigger. That idea is what separates you from everyone else, it’s what makes you… you.

When it comes time to develop a logo design, it can be a bogging down time full of tossing and turning, try to find that absolutely perfect symbol that tells the story of who you are. For the most part, I agree. But on the part I disagree, your logo should give people quick access to what they should expect only. I read an interesting article from the Huffington Post about just this issue. It’s a lot of pressure to put the demands of your story on a simple icon. I think your logo should definitely fit into the process and not take away, but typically – your product and way of doing business should actually be the storytellers.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think having a simple, clean, icon that is eye-catching and well designed is extremely important (it’s kinda what I do). But, let’s just not get too carried away. If your logo is lacking, maybe it’s time for an update – you don’t want it being a distraction. But it could also be time to update your view of how your business’/organization’s story is told. It could be that you’ll quickly see that if people don’t like your story from the perspective of your customer service or your products… it’s not gonna matter how awesome your logo is!
